Manager's Message

December 2011

Hello Owners!
We, your on-site team, hope you all enjoyed a Merry Christmas hope you have a Happy New Year! We also hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, full of family, fun and great food. The lobby was decorated brilliantly for the holidays.

It sure is hard to believe that the year 2011 is coming to an end. There have been so many things happening here at the resort that it’s hard to fit it all in just one update. The biggest and most exciting aspect at the resort is the increase in owners, guests and visitors who have been returning to the resort this past year and enjoying the accommodations improvements along with the reopening of the restaurant and refurbished spas.

We are very proud to announce and present our first Employee of the Quarter award to Martha Sanchez of the housekeeping department. Martha has demonstrated excellent customer service, professionalism and the dedication to her job that exemplifies the David Walley’s spirit! Congratulations to Martha!

Employee of the Quarter will be awarded every quarter throughout this next year, with an Employee of the Year selected at year’s end. Please stop and say hello to Martha when you visit the property. If any employee provides you with excellent service, please take the time to let us know by filling out the comment card online at www.davidwalleys-resort.com/commentcard or sending me an email at duanej@tradingplaces.com and letting me know of your experience.

It is also very exciting to announce that the new Harriett’s Café is now open. The new changes are beautiful and very comfortable. Harriet’s features Starbucks coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, etc., as well as wonderful Danishes, juices and blended drinks. It is expected Harriet’s will begin serving a complete menu of food beginning around the first of the year.

In addition to Harriet's, the Gazebo located across from the restaurant is now in full use and the recent weddings held there have been beautiful!

Around the resort we have begun some very important projects, such as installing a new Internet system which will provide owners and guests with FREE Internet access from all rooms. We have repaired all gutter systems on the Aurora, Bodie and Canyon buildings, which included the addition of heat tape to prevent ice buildup. A mattress replacement program is being developed, new stair safety treads will be installed in the Aurora and Dillon buildings, and repairs to the sidewalks of the Aurora building and patios will begin soon.

Since my last Manager's Message, there are many items that have been undertaken and accomplished by our team to improve your vacation experience at David Walleys Resort. Here are just a few examples:

  • A reserve study has been completed and presented to the Board of Directors.
  • Housekeeping mid-week cleaning program has been reintroduced.
  • The maintenance shop has been relocated to improve response time and service.
  • The cabins are in process of being converted to accommodate couple massages, pedicures and (soon to come) a mini-store.
  • Maintenance department has completed over 630 work orders and requests.

Some of the items we are working on are:

  • A new look and feel for our bedrooms

This is being prepared and completed by a couple of our very own housekeepers in efforts to help modernize the room and extend the life of our assets.

  • Continuing room repairs throughout property
  • Rebuilding or replacement of outside BBQs

Effective September 1, 2011 the Reservations Administration was transferred to Trading Places International. This change will prove beneficial to you with personal attention to your reservation needs. Please be sure to call 800-385-0126 for your reservations or any other assistance you may need.

With the coming of the New Year, we are looking forward to some of the many changes expected around the property. A few of these changes will include the initial renovation of the spas, improvements to the spa building, and more improvement of the room’s interiors. I am sure that you will find the resort changes to be beautiful and exciting.

When you are in town or during your next visit to the resort, please join me on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm in the Stoneroom at the Restaurant for a Meet & Greet gathering of your fellow owners. In the interim, if I can be of assistance you contact me directly by email at duanej@tradingplaces.com.

All of us here at the resort look forward to welcoming you back in 2012!

Duane Jakob
